More information on our “Orvieto Guided Tour”
Orvieto is probably Umbria’s most peculiar town: built high up on a volcanic rock of tufa-stone, it was founded by the Etruscans more than 2700 years ago.
In the heart of the medieval town is one of Italy’s most astonishing gothic churches, the Cathedral. Among all the precious paintings inside, the fresco cycle in the chapel of San Brizio* is a true masterpiece by such Renaissance masters as Beato Angelico and Luca Signorelli.
Also worth a visit, the famous Saint Patrick’s well*(Pozzo di San Patrizio), dating back to the 16th century, Orvieto Underground (the Caves)*, the Torre del Moro*, an elegant, 47m tall Tower which dominates the city with its large clock and two bells, perfectly oriented along the four cardinal points and St. Andrew’s Church, possibly Orvieto’s most ancient.
